Case Shiller Index affects Portland Prices

Portland area buyers will use the monthly Case Shiller Housing Price Index as one of their guides for determining the value of a property they consider buying. Their other major value guide is comparable sales within the past three months.

The most recent Case Shiller report showed the Portland index at 135.44. This number is approx 4.73% lower then one year ago, 9.63% lower than two years ago, and 27.38% below our market peak in July 2007.

The current index number is not our LOWEST point however. That occurred in March 2011 when we hit bottom at 132.67.
